Tometo

Tometo is an AI engineering manager aimed at early-stage startups that need engineering coordination but aren't ready to hire a full-time manager. Rather than living in its own dashboard, it plugs into the tools a small team already uses — Slack, GitHub, Linear, and Google Calendar/Meet — and reads that activity to understand who is working on what, where projects stand, and who is blocked. From there it can act, creating Linear issues, scheduling meetings, sending nudges, and kicking off the right conversations between engineers.

The product's most distinctive idea is passive blocker detection paired with "is the launch on track?" visibility. Instead of asking the founder to run standups and chase status, Tometo surfaces stalls and cross-team dependencies and routes them to whoever is best placed to help, using a lightweight map of team expertise. A conversational manager chat lets you ask about status or delegate directly. For a solo founder drowning in coordination overhead, that framing — a proactive coordination layer rather than yet another tracker — is genuinely appealing.

The caveats are those of a young product. Tometo launched in early 2025 from a solo founder, so longevity and roadmap depth are unproven, and its value is concentrated in teams standardized on Linear/GitHub/Slack/Google (Jira support was still only planned at review time). Just as important, it manages the process side of engineering — visibility, nudging, coordination — not the human or technical core of the job: it won't mentor engineers, make architectural calls, or run hiring. Read it as an affordable coordination assistant for small teams, not a substitute for real engineering leadership.
